Big announcement

Remember a few posts back when I said this, “All the meetings, all the negotiations, all the deals done and some undone, it has all added up to something in me, a new skill and it feels like organizational leadership.” And this, “Not totally sure what this means yet, but I can feel change on the horizon.” Well that change is now being fully embraced. I am writing this as the new Executive Director of Summa Institute. Yes, you read that right. The board made it official just a short while ago. Break out the champagne; this is certainly cause for celebration. I am excited for the obvious reasons and nervous, those reasons are probably obvious too.

I have a lot to accomplish in the next 6 months.

Find a building
Secure the start up funds to get this vision off the ground
Launch the family campaign that will result in 130 students and 60 or so founding families for our academy
Hire the staff needed and train them|
Create all the infrastructure necessary to support a successful launch
Build and maintain a board who will support and guide me well

No time to waste, better get crackin!

The building search continues

So, South Waterfront, taking a closer look at this as a potential home for us. It has a lot to recommend it: waterfront trails, community gardens, the tram, parks, neat little waterway fountains tucked between super tall buildings, food carts, the Willamette Shore Trolley, close to everything with street car access and train coming soon. Hard to beat. There is a unique mix of things going on down there with the condos, OHSU and construction of low income veteran housing. It seems that it could be a very unique and powerful place to host our vision. Thoughts?
